Article: Homeopathy

There are LOTS of misconceptions about homeopathy.  A lot of people think they know what homeopathy is, when they really have no idea.  Homeopathy is not just another word for "holistic" or "natural", although that's how many people use it.  It refers to a specific system of using like to cure like.  Although it involves using a physical tablet/pellet/liquid that you place under your tongue, it does not act on your body in a physical way as an herb or supplement does.  The pellet is just a carrier, if you will, for the energetic impression of the substance used to create it.  So, although you take a physical remedy, it actually works on your body energetically.  Toss everything you know about medicines and supplements and learn a new paradigm here.  Homeopathy is arguably the safest physical remedy you can possibly take.  There are no side effects, although your physical symptoms may temporarily increase at first, as your body responds to the remedy turning on your Vital Force to push the dis-ease out of your body.  There are all kinds of resources available to learn about this amazing healing system, and I will share my favorites with you here.

This is the best book available for easy reference in choosing remedies.  I have read, and own, several different books on the subject, but this is the one I pick up over and over again.  I keep it with my remedy kit and don't take my kit anywhere without it.   The organization makes more sense than any others and it's so easy to compare remedies to choose the right one.  I have no idea why no one else thought of organizing it this way before, but this is invaluable.  My kids all know how to use it, and they do.

Clicking on the image will take you to Amazon, but Amazon likely does not have any.  If all you see are copies from outside sellers for more than $21, click here to go directly to the authors' website to purchase from Healthy Homeopathy.  It will open in a new window.

They also offer a remedy kit that includes the main 50 remedies referenced in the book, at a pretty good price.  The only caveat is that the vials do not limit dispensing, so you'll have to be careful not to spill them.  Any spilled or dropped pellets cannot be put back into the vial.  You also cannot replace empty vials at your health food store, but the kit comes with an order form for refills.

Boiron is my preferred brand for homeopathic remedies because it's the brand you can easily find in any health food store in a pinch; you won't have to order new remedies and wait for delivery.  Additionally, the vials have special caps that limit dispensing; you have to twist the top to dispense each pellet into the cap.  This makes it impossible to spill them, thereby wasting them.  The cap will also not come unscrewed in your purse or pocket.  Of course, you pay more for them than the brand listed above.

I bought this kit for my daughter when she got married.  It looks like a little chest of 3 drawers.  The downside is that if you tip the box, the vials come out of their slots and all end up in a mixed up, out of order, mess at the back and bottom of the case.  It was clearly intended to sit on a shelf, not get carried around or packed in luggage.  There are extra slots available for the remedies you'll want to add to fill out your collection, but not too many.  This is a good beginners kit and nice and compact.  The price is right, considering you'd pay at least $7 per remedy, if you purchased them separately.  I've got a friend designing a new case that will hold more remedies and allow for easy travel, so I'll put that up when it's ready.

ABC Homeopathy is my source for individual remedies I can't get at my local health food store, especially higher potency remedies.  Just click on the pertinent letter of the alphabet for The Homeopathic Remedies Store and get an overview of the remedy as well as all the potency options available.  They are fast and efficient!

They also have an Online Remedy Finder database which can help you find a remedy to fit your symptoms, when the book is not helping.  But there's an important caveat -- you could get lost in it for hours!  It's very extensive and can get so specific on one tiny aspect of a less important symptom that you'll be tearing your hair out trying to answer the options.  Just realize you can stop answering them for a specific path at any time.  When you complete the process, you will see a table listing the most likely beneficial remedies for your situation, in order of how closely they fit your symptoms, listing which symptoms each is based on.  If you feel a less important symptom is weighting the results unfavorably, you can "trash" any of them at that point and the program will re-evaluate and give you a new table.  You can also elect to have the completed table e-mailed to you for future reference.  This feature has proved invaluable to me many times, but it is definitely NOT the first avenue to pursue in choosing a remedy.  You can usually find what you need quickly and easily in the book shown above.  But this is a great option for more complicated issues or when you don't have access to your book.
